I’m finding that my classical training does help me read lead sheets faster. And even better, I now read the melody line and then the chord notations.
It is incredibly freeing and I do need to listen closely to improve my ability to play by ear. I’m confident the buried for 50 years will emerge again. Not as easily perhaps but practicing for an hour every day helps dramatically.

I have just started learning to play and I am 64 years old. It is slow learning to read music all over again, as I used to play in band in high school. I just want to be able to sit down and play for myself or occasionally help the church when they go the assisted living. What do you suggest?
