I’ve been following you ever since I saw you on TV. A local piano retailer.Hall Piano in Kenner LA, was offering your courses. I couldn’t figure out which course I should take. I am more advanced than your beginning course, but don’t know where I should start. Most of the Piano in a flash mini lessons in your emails are things I already had figured out.
I need to under stand my left hand for more than chords and rhythms.
So what do I need to do next. Intellectually I know more than my hands can perform.
I would think you could start in Course 3 and get along all right. To do that, please call us at 317-726-1901 as we will need to manually sign you up as that is not an option directly from the site.
I think it must be that the “volume” slider on the vid player got accidentally turned down. It is a set of short vertical lines just to the right of the progress bar below the vid. As you mouse over them right or left the bars light up or dim. All of them lit up (to the right I think…) is full volume. My bet you have them all turned down and the player (produced by Vimeo) is remembering your settings when you come back to it.
We use Vimeo for the streaming, so if it still not working go check at vimeo.com to see if they have any advice. I know the vid is working correctly as they are getting viewed thousands of time a week.
In watching your teaching I came away with the following … Make learning a musical instrument an enjoyable and creative process … by … acquiring sufficient ability to read music that one can make sense of a lead sheet, practice learning songs you know and love, learn the chords, learn the melody, put the hands together, learn to embellish, enjoy.
So I pulled my copy of Hal Leonard’s Guitar Method “Easy Pop Melodies” off the shelf, sat down at my long neglected keyboard, and started work on “My Heart Will Go On.” Five chords, C, F, G, Am, Em, all using the same shape, all played on white keys, with a melody that spans a mere octave. I had more fun with that than any day in the past year practicing guitar.
Thank you very much for showing me the light and the path to a life enriched by music of one’s own creation,
Thanks again Scott for the great tip. I don’t have an occasion to comp,
but I now have a better understanding of it.

I think this question is along the lines of your comping video – what is vamping? From what I understand I think it might be a good way to practice chords and progressions, but I’m not entirely clear on what constitutes vamping.
Vamping is kind of like comping in a very repetitive manner. It’s way too much to get into here, but we do get into it in detail Course 4 and then expand upon it in courses 5 and 6 in the online method.
